One might suppose that the realization that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"style368\">People have been sent to prison for years for crimes that never happened;<\/li>\n<li class=\"style368\">Children had been abused, not by the accused, but by misguided therapists who implanted false memories;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"style369\">would have created a huge mea culpa among the professionals involved.\u00a0 This hasn\u2019t happened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u201cSome have defended their actions, if not the results, on the basis that their hearts were in the right place.\u00a0 Some have excused themselves on the basis that nobody knew any better \u2013 that, by golly, nobody could have guessed that rewarding children for making accusations, and questioning them until they did make accusations, might just lead to false accusations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u201cAnd they speak, in self-pitying tones, about the \u2018backlash\u2019 \u2013 the (presumably) undeserved and irrational criticism that is flung their way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"style173\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>\u2013 From\u00a0 \u201c<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130318035526\/http:\/\/members.shaw.ca\/imaginarycrimes\/howRAstarted.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The \u2018Ritual Abuse\u2019 Panic<\/em><\/a><em>\u201d at\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140621074243\/http:\/\/members.shaw.ca\/imaginarycrimes\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Imaginary Crimes<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">Mum\u2019s still the word from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=390\">prosecution therapists<\/a>\u00a0in the Little Rascals case, except for Judy Abbott\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=674\">resentful response<\/a>\u00a0to the \u201cbacklash.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sept. 6, 2013 \u201cThe day-care trials couldn\u2019t have happened without the active participation of social workers and therapists.\u00a0 Police authorities relied on the therapists to interpret what the child witnesses were saying, to interview the children and to counsel them about their alleged experiences.
