{"id":1187,"date":"2014-03-08T02:10:07","date_gmt":"2014-03-08T02:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=1187"},"modified":"2016-07-03T21:09:26","modified_gmt":"2016-07-03T21:09:26","slug":"why-sra-authors-mightve-passed-on-responding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=1187","title":{"rendered":"Why SRA authors might&#8217;ve passed on responding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\">March 8, 2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Last of three posts<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As I\u00a0recounted earlier, Dr. Jon Conte expressed a willingness to consider my expanded letter seeking a retraction of the Journal of Interpersonal Violence\u2019s past support of the \u201csatanic ritual abuse\u201d moral panic.\u00a0So what might have happened after I submitted that\u00a0October 25 letter\u00a0that resulted in Conte\u2019s cutting off contact by email or phone?<\/p>\n<p>I suspect the crucial clue lies in his specifying that \u201cWe are probably going to invite the authors to respond, and if they choose to do so I will share their responses before we publish your letter or their responses.\u201d\u00a0Those authors would include Susan J. Kelley (\u201cStress Responses of Children to Sexual Abuse and Ritualistic Abuse in Day Care Centers,\u201d December 1989) and Barbara Snow (\u201cRitualistic Child Abuse in a Neighborhood Setting,\u201d December 1990).<\/p>\n<p>Kelley has been oft-recognized at littlerascalsdaycarecase.org, not only for her enthusiastically wrongheaded academic work, but also for her\u00a0prosecutorial interviewing techniques\u00a0in the Fells Acres case.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Kelley, Snow eventually suffered consequences, however small. From the Salt Lake Tribune (February 22, 2008):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u201cA therapist accused of unprofessional conduct \u2013 including imposing false memories on her relatives \u2013 entered into an agreement Tuesday with (Utah\u2019s) Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u201cBarbara Snow is voluntarily being placed on probation, according to a statement from her attorney&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u201cThe disciplinary notice alleged Snow convinced a male relative he was sexually abused by his father. It also contended Snow convinced a female relative she was the victim of satanic abuse and military testing. When state investigators questioned Snow, she allegedly provided made-up notes about those sessions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u201cIn the agreement, Snow admitted destroying a relative&#8217;s computer equipment (with a baseball bat!) and adding two incorrect dates to her psychotherapy notes&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u201cSnow was involved in the prosecutions of a string of child sex abuse cases in the 1980s.
