In Salem, it was spectral evidence. In the twentieth-century cases, it included children\u2019s stories of spaceships, sharks, and ritual murder.<\/li>\n<li class=\"style184\">Community hysteria arose from the feeling that evil \u2013 witches and sex abusers \u2013 had access to their children.<\/li>\n<li class=\"style184\">\u201cPoppets\u201d or dolls were involved.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/womenshistory.about.com\/od\/Salem-Witch-Trials-Glossary\/a\/Poppet.htm\" target=\"_blank\">In the Salem trials, little dolls<\/a>\u00a0were immediately seized upon as poppets used by witches to pierce with pins with the object of inflicting torture.
