M. Stroud III, lead prosecutor at trial,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shreveporttimes.com\/story\/opinion\/readers\/2015\/03\/20\/lead-prosecutor-offers-apology-in-the-case-of-exonerated-death-row-inmate-glenn-ford\/25049063\/\" target=\"_blank\">wrote a remorseful article<\/a>\u00a0in The Shreveport Times, declaring, \u2018Glenn Ford was an innocent man,\u2019 taking responsibility for a rush to judgment and arguing for the abolition of the death penalty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u201c \u2018I apologize to Glenn Ford for all the misery I have caused him and his family,\u2019 Mr. Stroud wrote. \u2018I apologize to the family of (the murder victim) for giving them the false hope of some closure. I apologize to the members of the jury for not having all of the story that should have been disclosed to them. I apologize to the court in not having been more diligent in my duty to ensure that proper disclosures of any exculpatory evidence had been provided to the defense.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u201cHe concluded: \u2018I end with the hope that providence will have more mercy for me than I showed Glenn Ford. But I am also sobered by the realization that I certainly am not deserving of it.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"style360\"><em>\u2013 From \u201c<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/07\/03\/us\/glenn-ford-spared-death-row-dies-at-65.html?hpw&amp;rref=obituaries&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;module=well-region&amp;region=bottom-well&amp;WT.nav=bottom-well\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Glenn Ford<\/em><\/a><em>, Spared Death Row, Dies at 65\u201d\u00a0by Bruce Weber in the New York Times (July 2)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">By the time Mr. Ford was exonerated and released in 2014, he had served 29 years in Louisiana\u2019s Angola prison. His freedom was short-lived: In less than 16 months he would be dead from lung cancer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">Prosecutor Stroud deserves credit for his humble and agonized apology, however late. His words could just as truthfully have come from the mouths of H.P.
