{"id":191,"date":"2011-12-02T21:54:31","date_gmt":"2011-12-02T21:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=191"},"modified":"2016-07-04T13:07:15","modified_gmt":"2016-07-04T13:07:15","slug":"how-bill-hart-got-better-at-playing-dirty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=191","title":{"rendered":"How Bill Hart got better at playing dirty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"style76\" style=\"text-align: right;\">Dec. 2<span class=\"style171\">, 2011<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"style170\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-192\" src=\"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/111202Hart.jpg\" alt=\"111202Hart\" width=\"120\" height=\"180\" \/>\u201cVideotaped interviews made during the early cases (alleging day care ritual sex abuse) show that when children were allowed to speak freely, either they had nothing to say about abuse or they denied it ever happened to them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style170\">\u201cOnce it became obvious that these records would prevent guilty verdicts, prosecutors began advising investigators not to keep tapes or detailed notes of their work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"style172\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>\u2013 From \u201cSatan\u2019s Silence: Ritual Abuse and the Making of a Modern American Witch Hunt\u201d\u00a0by Debbie Nathan and Michael Snedeker (1995)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style170\">Perhaps the most significant difference in the two largest abuse trials was that McMartin defense attorneys were able to expose to jurors the prosecution therapists\u2019 manipulative interview techniques, while Little Rascals attorneys were stymied by the premeditated unavailability of original documentation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style170\">\u201cAfter Bob Kelly&#8217;s indictment,\u201d according to an article in the ABA Journal, \u201cBill Hart, a North Carolina deputy attorney general assigned to the case, traveled to Los Angeles to consult with McMartin prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style170\">\u201cHe learned that McMartin jurors had criticized videotapes of therapist Kee McFarlane&#8217;s interviews with the children.
