Prosecutors in the Philadelphia district attorney\u2019s office sought the death penalty, and got it&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA state court found that the prosecutors had lied, and vacated Mr. Williams\u2019s sentence. But the Pennsylvania Supreme Court unanimously reversed that ruling. The court\u2019s chief justice at the time, Ronald Castille, wrote a concurring opinion criticizing the lower court\u2019s ruling for \u2018condemning\u2019 the prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe problem was that Mr. Castille himself led the district attorney\u2019s office when it prosecuted Mr. Williams, and personally authorized seeking the death penalty in that case&#8230;.
