Ray would turn out to be a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=453\">major mischief-maker<\/a>\u00a0both inside and outside the jury room. Ray read aloud from a contraband Redbook article on how to identify child molesters,\u00a0 disobeyed the court\u2019s instruction not to visit the alleged crime scenes, reported that a jailhouse snitch had shared personal knowledge of Kelly\u2019s guilt and displayed a supposed \u201cmagic key\u201d referred to by several child witnesses.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1152\" src=\"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/140120TwentyFive.jpg\" alt=\"140120TwentyFive\" width=\"100\" height=\"147\" \/>Unfortunately, Judge Marsh McLelland told defense attorneys he didn\u2019t consider Ray\u2019s rogue behavior \u2013 or that of a second juror, who dramatically revealed during deliberations that he himself had been abused as a child \u2013 to be a \u201ctremendous problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least three jurors would later express deep doubts about the guilty verdict.<\/p>\n<p>Roswell Streeter, at 28 the youngest juror, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=2219\">would write<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll say this to the last day of my life, that the evidence that came through the courtroom did not prove that Bob Kelly committed any kind of sex abuse.\u201d He told \u201cFrontline\u201d he had felt intimidated and confused.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Nichols was suffering from advanced leukemia,\u00a0 and Marvin Shackelford had suffered two heart attacks. Both acknowledged afterward that worries about their health had moved them to vote guilty simply to cut short deliberations and go home.
