asserted that false allegations are quite rare and pointed out that children have little motivation for making a false accusation, but offenders have considerable motivation for persuading professionals that children are either lying, mistaken, or crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"style173\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>\u2013 From \u201cInterviewing Children About Sexual Abuse: Controversies\u00a0and Best Practice\u201d by Kathleen Coulborn Faller (2007)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">Yes, that Kathleen Coulborn Faller,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=499\">whose stubborn belief in day-care ritual abuse was expressed four years earlier<\/a>\u00a0in \u201cUnderstanding and Assessing Child Sexual Maltreatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">Although \u201cInterviewing Children&#8230;\u201d isn&#8217;t specific to ritual abuse cases, Dr. Faller\u2019s casual dismissal of false allegations echoes the \u201cBelieve the Children\u201d mantra of that era.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">So much wrongheadedness she manages to pack into a single sentence:<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u25a0 \u201cDrawing upon clinical experience and research, Faller&#8230; asserted that false allegations are quite rare&#8230; \u201d Here she cites not only her own anecdotal impressions, but also the profoundly misguided research conducted during the height of the abuse mania.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u25a0 \u201c&#8230; and pointed out that children have little motivation for making a false accusation&#8230;\u201d In fact, children who have been coaxed, threatened and worn down have every motivation to please their interrogators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u25a0 \u201c&#8230; but offenders have considerable motivation for persuading professionals that children are either lying, mistaken, or crazy.\u201d Did it occur to Dr. Faller that offenders have not a bit more such motivation than innocent defendants?<\/p>\n<p class=\"style245\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\u25a0 \u25a0 \u25a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">Ritual abuse: the creationism of social science?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 4, 2012 \u201cDrawing upon clinical experience and research, Faller&#8230;
