{"id":974,"date":"2013-06-05T15:24:57","date_gmt":"2013-06-05T15:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=974"},"modified":"2016-07-04T10:10:30","modified_gmt":"2016-07-04T10:10:30","slug":"parents-gave-thumbs-down-to-first-innocence-lost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.littlerascalsdaycarecase.org\/?p=974","title":{"rendered":"Parents gave thumbs down to first &#8216;Innocence Lost&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"style187\" style=\"text-align: right;\">June 5, 2013<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u201cMore than 50 parents of alleged child victims in the Edenton day care sex abuse case issued a statement Tuesday criticizing \u2018Innocence Lost\u2019 (after) reviewers in the national press hailed the show as a compelling portrait of a small town that may have become overcome with mass hysteria:&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u201c \u2018 \u201cInnocence Lost\u201d conveyed the false impression that parents of the children came to the conclusions of sexual abuse as a hysterical reaction to rumors of abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u201c \u2018We, as parents, came to the devastating conclusion of the sexual abuse of our children after great reluctance and only after the most convincing evidence, evidence which could not be revealed in interviews for \u201cInnocence Lost\u201d and can only be revealed during the trials of the defendants.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">\u201cSpecifically, the parents faulted the show for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"style184\">\u201cFailing to make clear that parents could not discuss \u2018the factual reasons for the determinations of sexual abuse\u2019 because of pending trials.<\/li>\n<li class=\"style184\">\u201cSuggesting to viewers that three state-sponsored, local therapists were responsible for evaluating the children when \u2018in fact, the children were evaluated by no less than eight independent therapists, none of whom live or practice in Edenton, N.C.\u2019<\/li>\n<li class=\"style184\">\u201cGiving the impression that the families who used the day care center were a \u2018prestigious group\u2019 when they represent a \u2018broad economic and social cross-section of the town of Edenton.\u2019 \u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"style173\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>\u2013 From \u201cDay care parents resent implications of hysteria\u201d (News &amp; Observer, May 15, 1991)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"style184\">Most disingenuous is the Little Rascals parents\u2019 claim that \u201cthe most convincing evidence&#8230; could not be revealed in interviews for &#8216;Innocence Lost&#8217;
